Microplastics are a hot topic in today’s health scene, but I was surprised to find out that, besides unintended contamination, microplastics are actually being added deliberately by manufacturers. These tiny particles, less than 5mm in size, are commonly used in cosmetics and personal care products. They’re frequently added to exfoliators, toothpaste, cleansers, and more to enhance texture, act as fillers, or improve the formula’s stability.
Recent studies highlight just how pervasive microplastics are in the beauty industry. According to a study by the Plastic Soup Foundation, 87% of tested cosmetic products contained microplastics, with major brands like L’Oréal, Unilever, and Procter & Gamble among those including these synthetic particles in their formulations.

The deliberate use of microplastics raises significant concerns for both environmental and human health. These particles persist in ecosystems, leaching from wastewater into oceans and eventually entering the food chain, where their impact on marine and human health is still being studied.
At Ancestralis, we are deeply committed to minimizing our environmental impact and ensuring our products are free from harmful substances like microplastics. Our production process avoids plastics entirely, using only stainless steel equipment. To reduce plastic waste, we also package our products in sustainable amber glass jars, providing a clean, eco-conscious alternative.
